It’s been almost three years since I started my role as a French language teacher at Sint-Lievenscollege Business in Ghent, but the wide world seems to be calling me, again.
It was this urge to explore the world that took me in 2021 to Curahuasi, a village in Peru. As the volunteer coordinator of the Belgian NGO Oye LENA I was in charge of the recruitment and coaching of the volunteers. Besides all the administration, communications and coordinating tasks, I taught Spanish to the volunteers and English to the primary and secondary schoolchildren. It filled my heart with hope to see how these kids had developed skills and consciousness, being eager to learn a foreign language. During our monthly society workshops we talked about world peace, sustainability, mutual respect, equality and sexual education. I truly believe these children will make a difference for themselves, for their families and for the community.
It was in Peru that I discovered my passion for teaching, but I still lacked an academic foundation. In 2023, I returned to Belgium to teach French to secondary schoolchildren while studying at Ghent University. After obtaining my Master’s Degree in Language Teaching and two school years of teaching experience, my passion for education remains as strong as ever, but my curiosity about teaching in an international context has grown. As has my desire to discover more of the world. That’s why I decided, inspired by a friend I met in Peru, to enroll in the Postgraduate in International Teaching at Thomas More Mechelen.
I am eager to bring my enthusiasm for languages and cultures into a multicultural classroom, and to learn from colleagues with different backgrounds and approaches. I believe that every new environment is a source of professional and personal growth. My goal is to contribute to a school community that values innovation, inclusion, and curiosity. By continuously developing my intercultural competencies and exploring creative didactic and pedagogical methods, I hope to inspire students to become open-minded, confident, and responsible global citizens.
I am therefore actively seeking international teaching opportunities where I can continue to grow as an educator and contribute meaningfully to diverse learning communities. If my profile and my vision resonate with your school, I would welcome the opportunity to connect.
